Seasons of Missing Her

The snow was falling on her freckled cheeks
Her brown eyes reflected the fire within her soul
She lifted her lens
Hoping she could capture something her eyes could not
Day-by-day she returned and took the same old faulted picture
She thought maybe if she took the photograph one more time
She could hear her laughter
She thought maybe the shutter would return her smile
Soon her wall became full of photos from every season
But her heart never felt so empty
She was searching for any evidence that her burning radiance
Had once been there
But the only place where she could return and find her
Was not their favorite place
Or in the failed attempts of the broken photographs
But alive in her heart
