Self-Guided

It slipped my mind,
I totally forgot
I should be someone that you like,
someone that I'm not

"Don't be yourself," you implied,
"be my way instead, it's better.
You'd be happier if you tried.
Heed my instructions to the letter."

Something tore me away from your advice
I don't know what it was
Something about you just didn't entice
me to refrain my own self-applause.

It's much easier doing what I want
I don't know if you're aware
It's a little freedom I like to flaunt...
With myself, I prefer to be fair.
