Selfish Desires

I lay aside my selfish desires this Mother's Day
The thing I want most is to know y'all are okay
That you are somewhere celebrating love with someone
Being cherished and having fun
Not thinking about the pain of the past
Or growing up way too fast
That y'all are being taught how to pray
And having hugs and kisses everyday
I pray you have a mom that is more than great to you
Whose love erases the pain I put you through
Because I know that it would be selfish to say
That the thing I want most for Mother's Day
To hug your necks and tell you I love you
And give you all the apologies you are due
To erase the memories from way back then
And try to start all over again
To act the way a good mom should
I really wish that I could
But you can't change the past
And time goes by really fast
So I promise I will continue to pray
Plead the blood for your lives every day
I stand on stand the promise that he will restore
Everything the devil stole before

This Poems Story

My name is Cassandra Perez and my writing comes from my heart. My testimony is one that is not yet complete, but whose is? God has brought me very far and seems to want to take me higher as he does all who love him. My past is one of drugs and abuse but my future is of forgiveness and healing. This particular poem was submitted by mistake. The Lord tends to speak to me through poetry and I am working on writing a daily devotional.
