Semantic Satiation

Have you ever said a word till it’s meaning was lost?
I think that’s my greatest fear

Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love.
Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love?

Does that word exist still?
Greek has eight words for it
Tamil, over 50
Sanskrit alone has 96
But is even that enough?

How do you describe the way you fall
when somebody laughs on the street
becoming Aphrodite for just a second?

When a stranger helps you up, asks if you’re alright
giving you faith in an impossible god
for what else could they be?

When you read words and they stay
in the back of your mind, a permanent mantra
and you understand why religions are written in books.

How many times can I love
before it means nothing at all?
