Separation
I wake up and they are not there
When I get home they are not there
Then they are back a few days later
Stay for 3 days
I wake up and they are not there
Even on important days they are gone
When I need someone there is only one
Not the one I wanted
I go to them sometimes
But not the same as them home
Something is separating us
A person
No
Something worse than any person could do
People think it's only hard on her
But it's hard on me too
People don't understand
And to make it worse people being mean to me
And I have no one to talk to because
When I wake up they are not there
When I get home they are not there
Something separated us
Cancer

This Poems Story
Sarah is a twelve-year-old who lives in Stamford, CT with her parents, older brother Stefano, older sister Sofia, and her treasured dog Fendi. She enjoys school, theater, biking, and jumping on her trampoline. Her inspiration for her poem is her emotions when her life suddenly changed after her fifteen-year-old sister was diagnosed with cancer, and her world turned upside down.
