If you were only a fleeting shadow,
You'd dart around the room,
Hide in the shade,be swathed in the gloom.
No substance would you have,
You'd be completely hollow,
And when your owner moved,
You'd have no choice but follow.
If you were only a faded shadow,
You'd always know how to dance.
Follow each move someone makes,
But escape? There is no chance.
When it's cold and frigid,
Of you there'd be no trace,
A reflection bound to one,
Hunter on a chase.
If you were only a lonely shadow,
You would make your home,
Along the faded paths,
Where others tend to roam.
Comes into vision, like a blossom in the spring.
Bound to earth, couldn't learn to fly,
For shadows have no wings.
