Shadows of the Moon

There is something strangely beautiful about
the unknown,
the darkness,
the black of night.

Maybe it is the illumination of the sky's crystals,
or perhaps,
it is the silence that seems to accompany
the dimmed aurora.

One thing I know for sure is that you
have galaxies in your eyes,
and all I have ever wanted to be was one star.

You taught me the difference between living
and feeling alive,
and for that I am forever grateful.

But I was naive as I clung to you,
like a girl lost at sea,
grasping for the unfamiliar air
and holding on for her life,
as she begins to sink,
and eventually fades in oblivion.
