She is Hope

Darkness surrounds her like a cloud of smoke
Slowly suffocating her, stealing the life right from her eyes
Lies, deceit, betrayal -- the goodness she saw was merely a fallacy
Reality closes in on her, slowly crushing the naivety that had somehow been preserved within her until now
But she can't lose hope -- she is the light
If she falls, morality dies
To be oblivious is safer, for with knowledge comes corruption and the possibility of malevolence
What happened to humanity?
Do we no longer stand for the values that for so long we used to preach?
Though she can't see it, her essence continues to radiate a defiant glow
She remembers her significance and refuses to give up
If she survives, maybe one day humanity can change.
