She Just Wants

She just wants to escape
To flee the deep dark depths of her mind
To a place free of debilitating pain
The kind of pain that grips your throat and suffocates you
She just wants to feel beautiful
To look in a mirror without tears forming
To feel adequate in her own skin
And to not care about the number on the scale
She just wants to be free
Free from the monster that consumes her
To be without the illness that wants to kill her
The disorder that has trapped her for years
She just wants a hug
To feel loved and cared for
She just wants to be sure
Certain that man won't hurt any more little girls the way he hurt her
She just wants to smile
To be genuinely happy
To not ache deep inside when she fakes a laugh
She just wants to write
To expel her feelings on paper
To extract the pain from inside
And to be understood
She just wants to be heard
For her feelings to matter
And to be noticed
But she knows she can't always get what she wants
So she just wants to escape
