She Lies

Oblivious to the spectator,
she lies on the sea,
waiting for nothing to happen.
The water slips through her pores
like childhood.
The rocks make for her
a jagged bed that digs into her back
and leaves marks like her first husband's fists.
Ripples smoothly cascade from her body,
leaving her in stages
like her unborn child.
