Shifting Scales

In the light I cast a shadow
In the darkest depths their lies me
One can't be without the other
So like this I will always be
Does my shadow define me
Or do I define my shadow
A bleak existence or one of excitement
Given meaning by my lifeblood
What gives me a being
A clarity of mind
A reflection to base my life
What causes the disbalance of me and my shadow
In light it fades and in darkness it grows
Both of us having our moment to shine
But which will have control of this one's fate
Me or the shadow I cast every day
The carnage that follows within
Living off of our conflict
That comes from the diverging of path with which to seek
A constant battle with only one end
The shadow and me share one fate
But seek different paths along the way
Never in agreement on the way to move forward in life
No matter what path we chose to travel through in life
We will always meet at the end of days
For even in death we will always be
The first and last being that we will ever see
Chained to one another unbroken for all to see
My shadow and me
