Shipwreck

No harbor lights--
Aground!
Love's self-inflicted wreckage
heaving ‘round.
Alone against the gale,
humanity thrust overboard
long before the sail.
Too proud, no S.O.S.;
a shipwreck feels no pain.

Heart-cracked--
the rocks,
the leap;
drifting, sinking, drowning,
in a sea of absent faces.
A light, a hand, a raft,
a breath of life,
a tiny spark of hope
guttering
in an empty soul.
