Shut Away

You shut yourself away,
Never to see the day;
You isolate yourself--
A life put on the shelf.
Where others look to see
A fulfilled destiny,
You see the great unknown
To reap what you have sown.

You shut yourself inside
The shell in which you hide;
Where no one else will hear
Each ragged, bitter tear.
You dread each new mistake
On the path you'll take.
Silent cries wring your soul
As you hide in your hole.
