Silent Child

I saw your tears, I felt your fears
But only silence filled our space
I saw you trembling I somehow felt your pain
But haunting memories shadowed
And screamed without a sound
I saw you flinch, drawing away
No matter who shared the ambient space
No words, no smiles would render hope
Arms reached out to embrace
But there was only emptiness to touch
How do I speak to you, comfort you
As you stand there in blind terror
Who do you trust, can you trust
Your world betrayed
Your life so young
Violated, excruciated
And you stand there
Ghost-like, empty, silhouetted
Unable to see, unwilling to be seen.
