Simmer

More than a simple two-step
Not just a give and take
It is twisted and complex
Dull and sharp at once
How does it live and die?
With a whisper, with a bang
With a soft touch or a full-body slam

Is it a blue flame?
Burning quickly and intense
With scorching heat
All-consuming
Engulfing everything in its path
Leaving nothing in its wake
Destroying itself from within

Is it a comforting simmer?
A warm, steady, constant beat
Dependable and always there
A protective blanket
A quiet strength
Accepting, uplifting, supporting
Helping you evolve, grow, dream and dare

My love is your simmer,
Not an errant blue flame
