I shed my skin today.

Dry, cracked and blistered,
My eyes filmed over with doubt.

It did me no good.

No longer protecting me,
Tight, constricting,
It caused me only pain.

I tore it from my body
And cast it to the ground.
My old self, my new enemy,
I ground it to dust beneath me.

It left me exhausted and raw.
My new skin tender, aching with every touch,
But so much bigger, so much brighter.

I shed my skin today

See how I shine.
