Sleep of the Beast

I turn to you in the darkness
Our bodies entwined, burning
Can’t get close enough, can’t begin
To understand this yearning

My senses awake in an instant
Torn from a peaceful sleep
The scent of you pulls at my insides
From places unknown in the deep

I wait for the rush of panic
The flood of ominous doubt
The weight of your limbs entrap me
It’s a comfort I can’t figure out

My beast is silently screaming,
Trying to find a way free
Love is so claustrophobic and
I just want to be me

Yet tangled with you is a freedom
The wild in me sings
No longer afraid of the hunger
That loving completely brings

I turn to you in the darkness
As the fear in me subsides
You’ve released my beast from the dungeon
And gave him a place to hide
