Smoke Clouds

when the smoke clears
people don't forget
the blood doesn't stop flowing
the pain doesn't stop
the dead are still dead
mothers have lost sons
sons have lost fathers--sisters their brothers
war. it breaks families destroys lives
and little boys become men who run to war
and we clap. but not the little girl
not the little girl who lost
her father and her brother
not the woman who loses
her son and husband
it's all over the news
we won! we won!
yeah we won
but we lost. we lost people
how. how will she tell them
tell them their father is gone
that their father is dead
so clap
clap because we won
but remember the little boys and girls
because when the smoke clears
people don't forget
