So Much For Life

As the sky slips into a darker shade of blue,
The stars that held all forgotten memories of childhood
Press their lips up to my ear.
They hum a tune of memory,
For music is all I hear.

I cannot remember my first laugh,
My first smile,
My first cry.
But I recall the time
I heard the music from the sky.

I thought a plan--right from the start--
Of which I have fallen too far:
To keep the melody in reality
And thank my lucky stars.

So much for life
