All you have to do is pray.
God won't give what you can't handle.
There's a reason, so they say.

"He's in a better place, you know."
"It's all part of God's plan."
"Heaven got an angel."
"He never knew the ills of man."

"It was just his time, my friend."

They quote a lot of scripture
like, "O, death where is thy sting?"

They say this, too, shall pass
and to take it day by day.
"Your other children need you
to be strong for them, okay?"

"Let go and let God," they say,
whatever that might mean.
"You can always have another one,
so please don't make a scene."

"Move on," they say.
"Get over it."
"Stop living in the past."
But grief does not just go away.
It lasts, and lasts, and lasts...
