Softest Steel

Proceed with caution
These jagged edges
They shred and tore
I should know
I’ve twisted myself inside out
Carved out the best of myself
Laid it at your feet
Your expectations
I’m hoping to met
You’ve used it up
Filled your maw
Gone but lingering like a ghost
I have nothing you want anymore
You haunt the gaping of me
So I’ve filled them
With fire and steel
In hopes I wouldn’t feel
But there’s a well inside me
Endless and brimming over
It’s full
I’m full
Full of love but
I’m not soft anymore

I haven’t been inspired to write poetry for a while but a quote on tumblr inspired me to write this. I hope it makes you feel something.
