Sold Out

You just want to feed your kids and give them a place to live.
So, you sell your time to an employer who doesn't care
And doesn't pay - who says: I'm in Bankruptcy - sue me!"
And you can't feed your kids, or give them a place to live
So, you sell your knowledge for a few more cents,
A dollar a column inch - is what they pay you,
But its not enough to feed your kids, or give them a place to live.
You sell your wedding ring to the pawn shop to buy diapers
And you still can't pay the rent or feed your kids.
So, you sell your dignity and go to the State.
You wait two hours to talk to someone who can't add or spell,
Who looks down on - You and on your situation -
Who waits a month to make a decision -
Then finally tells you; "You qualify for food stamps"
But you still can't pay the rent and you have nothing left to sell
To give your kids a place to live
But your body - and your soul
So -Where do you go from here?
