Sometimes She Forgets

A whisper in the dark
To soothe her child’s broken heart
Just a mom
With a hurting little one

Sometimes she forgets

Tumultuous teenage rebellion
Violence from naught but a hellion
A whisper in the dark
Reaching for her child’s broken heart

Sometimes she forgets

Well-adjusted adult women
With hurting children of our own
And whispers in the dark
Aimed for our sons’ broken hearts

Because sometimes she forgets
How great a mom she is
And our whispers back to her
Soothe the cracks our broken hearts left in her soul.
