Sonnet for Your Birthday in May

Music sweet and sacred rings the sky,
When sunlight grows or fades upon the day,
And trees' green flowers' fragrance rises high-
Intense and living earth in fully array.

All colors blooming tenderly in light,
Shed golden dust descending through the air.
Green veining whorls dig roots through darkest blight,
Nor death in children's laughter brings despair.

Such newness fades and ripens within time,
And starry evening's mantle courses by,
And lovers' rages bind secure as vines,
And love's eternal rhythm is a sigh.

When May shows splendidly such resurrection,
How can one doubt love's timeless benediction?
