Spirits

By Martha

Spirits come to see me
They visit every day
They show me they still love me
Then they head on down their way
Sometimes they leave a familiar scent
Like the smell of their cologne
And that's when I remember
That I will never be alone
Some spirits are familiar
It's the people that I've known
It may be an old friend or family
Sometimes it chills me to the bone
Some spirits are truly evil
But I lock those spirits out
The Lord is the one who helps me
And that I will never doubt
I often wonder if
When I go to the other side
Of all the spirits I know there
Which one will be my guide
Do they have a job to finish
They didn't do when they were here
Or did they choose to leave here sooner
So there would be less for us to fear
I wonder whose job is harder
Being here or being there
But since they chose to go first
Let's us know they truly care
Some of my spirits were very young
And some were very old
Some of them were weak
But some were very bold
Now I love all of my spirits
My family and my friends
And one day I will be there with them
You see our spirits never end
