Splinters

The bark is sharp,
once a "Giving Tree".

In the shade I couldn't see
that my sky was darkening.

The branches began scratching into my skin.
Another bruise carefully and quietly set in.

And as I looked up to the limbs where color used to be,
I found it hard to recognize what stood in front of me.
