Standing in the Rain

There's a lonely little girl
standing in the rain,
clutching tight to her teddy bear,
Trying to ease the pain
of a broken heart
and shattered dreams,
and the love that now is lost.
She's frightened, cold, and very sad;
Don't you think she's paid the cost
of a wicked war
that she didn't start?
Nor did she understand,
But that didn't matter to anyone else.
They sent her daddy to fight for the land.
Her mommy's dead,
Her brothers too-
her relatives and friends.
Her life is empty and endless now,
and no one tries to mend
the broken heart
of the little girl
standing in the rain,
clutching tight to her teddy bear.
Trying to ease the pain.
