Staring in the Shadows

She smiles at me from the shadows.
I think of her with the sight of every butterfly.

They say that time's a healer.
Whoever "they" are lied.

And you can't smoke, snort, or drink away your memories.
Believe me because I've tried and tried and tried...

And I still hurt just as badly,
as the day they died.

I see the wreck and hear her screams,
still I can't save her in my dreams.

As my eyes open I can't say for sure,
if the scream that caused me to awaken,
belonged to me or her.
