Starr: “A Tribute of Love”

The day we saw her, she was very small
The others were cute but her eyes said it all
She stood out among the rest
And he could see she was the best

As all puppies are she was chubby and stout
He could see how she would stand out
We took her home, with us she would stay
Never knowing how she could be taking away

She grew strong on love and care
And she would follow him anywhere
For on his love she would thrive
His presence was all to keep her alive

Then one day their lives would change
To prove her love she went beyond
For all her worth of him she was more than fond

They never saw what was to come
When trouble struck, she would not run
What she knew what she had to do
All along I feel he somehow knew

She gave her life to protect the love
Of the one man that could see beyond
You will never be forgotten, peace our protector

This Poems Story

Written in respect of a faithful friend. I was born in July 31, 1955, fifth child in a family of seven kids. I always longed to write ever since the sixth grade, when a teacher inspired me to follow my dream. My first poem was published in 1993 when I saw an ad for an open poetry contest. I entered "Parent's Teachings" which went over like a landslide. Thus the writing bug had bit. I wrote more and more. Many years later, I found that my love was in a "block" so to say. I had not written in the last ten years, until my life was sent a heartbreak. In an event a life was taken too early and the only way I could find a peace in my soul was to let her story be told. She was a wonderful spirit in my (as she was in many) life. I hope you enjoy her story and look forward to sharing my inspiration with you.
