Stars Above

stars above, stars below
neon city lights whose glow
mirrored on the melting snow
don’t make the world brighter

bloodied fists, bloodshot eyes
once a starstruck girl whose cries
echoed through the starry skies
and made themselves a warrior

silent tears, silent rage
now a beaten girl whose age
stretched too far for time to gauge
stands and waits for morning
