Starting Over

Seven days to go,
and a week

Will turn on itself like a leaf in the wind.

Sidewalk cracks deepen by the one-one hundredth of a nanometer
that may never fold in on itself quite wholly enough
to grow old.

As more concrete is mixed, and the pavement replaced anew,

Tell me:
why are we so obsessed
with starting over?

We all race headlong (sometimes hard) into zero,
bloom naked into digits we never could dream, and the difference

Splits us whole numbers;
nothing
is ever
as manifold as it seems.
