Straddling the Line

I have this death wish, it's true to say,
I try walking a straight path but it's easy to stray.

Lucifer stalks me every time I look back,
waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack.
He knows when I'm lonely, he knows when I'm afraid.
He knows as long as I don't look up I'll be easily swayed.

So I look to the book of promised redemption,
but it's hard to believe true, in a world full of deception.

The truth is I hold a lot of pain at heart,
hoping, pleading, and praying for a fresh start,
one in which I can live my life in your grace,
until the day comes, and we meet face to face.

The darkness scares me, I bide for the light,
thinking, God please make this my last fight.
Take me to you in all your glory,
and put a flowery stamp on my life story.
