Stray Thoughts

When fear lies
I feel I will subside
For darkness turns once more,
back into light.
A wizard fooling all
As if I’m never there,
but somehow here in place.
In everybody’s sight
The echoes of a distant past
Come rolling in across the rain
Succumbing me to the land.
Encumbered forever
By reminiscence and reverence
My mind and soul, the victims of severance
Alas but a trivial endeavor.
Cloudless, every day the sky
Falls upon my waking eyes
Inciting me to comply
To this foolish disguise.
No more than alive,
I didn’t recognize
What I’d become.
I wish I’d crawl back to life
My body potent and all awry
I swiftly renounce this lullaby
And certify that my essence is solely a strife.
