Strong Man

He is a strong man
in sense of stature-
in sense of posture-
not in sense of character.
Though, on better days,
I know he would give
the shirt off his back.

He loves me;
he just has a hatred in him-
A hatred that boils his blood,
and hardens his fists-
a hatred that blackens my skin,
and leaves me silent, questioning
what defines a strong man.
