Strung Into You

We lived tied together by friendship bracelet strings
Your bright orange and yellow
Weaved in with my dark blue

In 8th-grade science class
Our wavelengths became synchronous
And our frequencies increased
We strung each other to our futures
We disregarded the past

When you told me you were leaving
I told you to say no
I had dreamed our lives
Laced together

But you liked the sun
You made a new life
And when I look back, I barely miss it

I lost the bracelet
But I remember
The faded colors of our year together
