Summer Solstice

Rain drops collect along a window sill
the cessation of the pitter patter
can only mean one thing
the water in the air
vanishes once
the looming clouds part
to reveal a beacon of hope
a light I share with my father
who shared it with his father
who shared it with his kin
for generations past
On this day
the light devours everything in its path
Even the darkest, coldest corners of the world
are showered in brightness
When the solstice arrives
it is greeted by eagerness
and leaves peace and heat
in its wake
