Summer’s End

Bright as butter, crown of gold
So proud upon your slender stem
Black-Eyed Susan blooms in fall
and signifies the summer’s end.

Mellow, yellow, fairest flow’r
I will not say I am your friend
I’ll not rejoice when you appear
Because you herald summer’s end.
