Sunset

A streak of blue flashes brightly
A splash of red cuts into the dusk
Purple dots scatter happily
The sky blushes
Clouds blossom from swathes of pale into cotton puffs
The sun grins lazily and falls down,..
Down.
Down.
Until it has dipped out of view
And the moon shyly waves
Self-conscious of its pocked surface
Unaware of its beauty and the awe it inspires
Stars peek through the painted sky
Glittering like gemstones
Twinkling happily at their turn to shine
The nighttime chorus of crickets singing and frogs humming begins
As the daytime retires sleepily and the darkness wakes up.
