Supper Time

Supper Time

Mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes,
Mixed with my peas.
Meat loaf with ketchup,
No gravy for me, please!
Poke a pea with my fork,
Squish it till it pops.
"Eat your supper, for Heaven's sake,
The fidgeting must stop!"
"How many more bites till I can be done?"
Mom makes piles with my fork,
"This much, hon."
I eat a bite and push two bites
To the other side,
"I did it! I'm done!"
With hopeful eyes opened wide.
"Okay, drink your milk,
You can be excused."
I did it again!
She bought my ruse!
Rush out to play,
We both got our roles right,
Get through supper without a fight!
