Surface

She swims in the pool of incredulity
Her mind meanders, circling bits and pieces of suspicion
Never able to grip the whole, never able to accept the fable
She can not see what is so clear
She can not see what is so near
Will she stand with force and lose this day, this life or
Does she swallow in the daylight earning peace only to be assaulted
In the night by images, words, fleshed-out scenes,
Pushing, invading, puncturing forever what was anointed
So sad, life can be so sad
Tears so close to the surface
Erode her willingness, her willingness drop all barriers
Knowing that love can be upended
She remains shakily defended
Swimming in the pool of incredulity
