Rich business owners

In Vietnam

Communists take over

Take the money

Take the business

Escape to America

No passports, just the clothes on our backs

Refugee camp in Thailand

8 months of waiting

8 months of helplessness

At last, freedom! But not for long

Captured by pirates at sea

No one to see

No one to help

Give them our money, not our lives

San Francisco, a land of promise and hope

A land of prejudice and hardship

Late nights washing dishes, early mornings struggling in school

Family first, school second

Nothing else matters

But to get food on the table for another day

"Prevail in the end

Through hard work

And persistence

Everything will get better," they say

It does.
