Taken Too Soon

A simple request if you please
to see him laughing by the trees,
playing games in his big chair
and beating me in cards with a pair.

A brother I was glad to claim
who loved me even though I was "lame,"
he gave me friends and memories to keep,
even so long even after "the big sleep."

He cared for sons not his own
and listened to me without a groan,
then one day he lost his fight
my hero with his stupid pride.

Taken way before his time
too much sugar was his crime,
he broke our hearts in pieces,
Leaving a wound that no time eases.
