Tantamout

If I am water, you are a vapor
The same element
Existing in different states
One, light as air
One, deep and muddled as the ocean
Different hues of the same color
The same note in different octaves
Yours, always a tender and melodic pitch
My notes only ever coming out dark, locrian.

Yet, you always understand
Always seeing the parts of myself
Carefully tucked out of view
Never needing to be cued in
Naturally sensing the bits
my pride will only allow me to allude to
Never knew there was anything strong enough
In me, to kill something inside of you
So, I will soften my tongue
Let the edges dull for you
Because there is not another soul in this world
That could love me the way you do.
