Tarnished Ladies

A broken echo of bells rang across the sea,
Many years had passed and more blood was shed,
Until it was known that you were calling for me.
To bespeak for ideals that were thought to be dead.

With broken chains at my feet I felt this precious place,
You asked me to battle the darkness, so I extended my flame,
All creeds and origins were welcomed when they saw my face,
I now stand here fallaciously; for things are no longer the same.

Unity and freedom is why I was summoned here.
The broken promises declared on the date I hold close to my heart,
Now I have been stripped and coerced toward hatred and fear,
Absolutism does not make this land great; it merely shreds her apart.

In the name of Liberty my reputation was garnished,
But neglecting your values my lady has left us both tarnished.
