Tell Me

Why won’t you speak?

I need to know why
Your sweetness causes such cavities.

Tell me.

I want to understand why
Your darkness consumes the stars in your eyes,
The sun in the sky.

Tell me.

I have to know why
I long for your voice,
Pattering rain
Bringing life
To yellowing grass.

Tell me.

I’ll cherish your departing words
As they escape like sparkling dust
Whispering through my fingers,
Freed by the breeze
In the wake of your silhouette.

Your echo fades.
I slowly pine away.

I only want to know why
You won’t speak.

Please tell me.
