Temporary bliss

Temporary bliss

By Nancy Dawn

Snowy white blanket
covering the imperfections
muffled noise
catch our breath
disrupt the chat
behold the beauty
pristine moment
as it deafens the
soul and calls it to urgency
old ground meets new
thoughts shift
children play
dogs dive
hardened hearts
melt with memory
smoke of haze
Across the sky
intermittent white flakes
fall on stoic trunks of trees
a patchwork quilt of blue and white
a childhood frame wanders across my mind
while the puppy barks
me to the present
as I peer out the window
on our snow day.
