Temptation

You took away the frame of my bed
my good shampoo
and the pills for my head.

You took away my nice little thoughts
the clothes that fit
and all that wisdom taught.

You took away my nice little church
the friends I made
and tea on my couch.

You took away music’s pleasures
the rhythm to dance
and all my bird’s feathers.

You took away the smiling faces
picnics at the beach
and other nice places.

You took away my cat and dog
my beta fish
and pet bull frog.

You took away my microscope
my journals
by God I am a dope!

To even give you the time of day
just because you say,
“Come and play.”
