Tendencies

This feeling of clarity within my mind,
this eye within the storm,
the affirmation that I'm okay,
the feeling oh so warm,

I thought of her as an escape,
A way to dumb me down.
I never took the time to think
that she was why I'd frown.

My mistress has a hold on me,
A hold I'll never shake.
The path of ruin that I forged
I'm left here in its wake.

I'll let her go; she'll find new men.
I'm renouncing the affliction.
For I know truth within myself
My tendency: addiction.
