Thank You Lemon Tree

Unkept, stunted, fruitless lemon tree
I look at her and see myself
And yet it is not I who receives my love, but instead the lemon tree
For despite lacking what most desire from one who bears fruit
The tree bears the weight of negligence and continues to stand tall
I decide to keep the unkept
To grow with the stunted
To bear fruit with the fruitless
The lemon tree
Now kept, grown, and graced with fruit
Has blossomed out of my sadness
I look at the tree that used to look at me and wonder if it is truly my projection which I see
The tree is still the tree
And I continue to be me
Neither has changed fundamentally
I stand with those who chose to stand by my side
Thank You
Lemon Tree
