Thanks, Miles Davis

Drumming on my table softly,
you tell me about Miles Davis
years ago on break
growling at a young percussionist,
"Don't bang. Play!"
Later that same night
we talk about"us;" you're scared, you say.
"Scared of what?"I ask,
and that's when I think it might
be okay to lean over,
punch you on the arm and grin,
"Don't bang. Play!"
